Hello September!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer break. As much as I love the extra family time, I’ll admit I really missed our daily routine. Now that the kids are back at school, I can finally sip a warm cup of coffee in peace and get back to my desk.

It got me thinking about how vital routine actually is for a creative. So often, we build habits into our workflow without even realising it: tidying up old project folders, organising client emails, or making that mandatory second cup of coffee at the exact same time every morning. Even starting a new brief follows a comforting pattern: research, sketching, writing, and refining ideas until everything clicks into place.

Finding Creativity in the Daily Rhythm

Having a solid routine in your workflow gives your creative mind a quiet place to focus. When you know exactly how your day starts and where your files live, you don't waste energy on small decisions. That structure creates a steady foundation, allowing you to jump straight into design work with a clear, relaxed head.

Beyond keeping the day running smoothly, a familiar process actually makes big projects feel much more manageable. Stepping up to a blank canvas can feel daunting, but breaking the work down into predictable steps turns a huge idea into small, easy tasks. You simply follow the process one stage at a time:

  • Research: Gathering inspiration and understanding the goal before making a single mark.

  • Sketching: Letting initial ideas flow freely without worrying about perfection.

  • Refining: Narrowing down concepts, tweaking details, and polishing the final output.

Ultimately, these small daily habits build the exact structure that creative thinking needs to flourish. As we step into September and settle back into the regular rhythm of our working days, I'm embracing the simple routines. They keep our workspaces organised, our coffee warm, and our best ideas moving forward. What small daily routines keep your creative workflow running smoothly?
